KU Author

Search for KU dissertations in Quick Search on the library homepage which includes records in the catalog, digital copies in  KU ScholarWorks, and the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database.  

• Almost all KU dissertations and theses written between 1883-1964 have been digitized and are in KU ScholarWorks. 
• Many KU doctoral dissertations and master’s theses written after 1964 are in ScholarWorks, but not all.
• If it was produced before 2007 and is not in ScholarWorks, it should be available as a print copy.  Circulating print copies pre-2007 are available at Anschutz Library.  
• If it was written after 2007 and is not available in ScholarWorks, ask the repository manager--currently Marianne Reed, mreed@ku.edu--to see if it is still in the ScholarWorks workflow. 

Non-KU Author

• Searching by title or author in Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo is a good place to start, since many universities make their digitized dissertations and theses available online for anyone. (This may not always be the case for older publications.)
• If you want to search for dissertations and theses from any university related to a topic, look in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global database.
• Typically, if you have a specific dissertation or thesis from another university not available in our databases, you will need to work with the Interlibrary Loan unit to see if you may borrow a copy from another library.

Note: Some dissertations may have an embargo placed by the author. An embargo restricts public access to the full text of the dissertation for a specified period of time. During this period, only the title, abstract, and citation information will be publicly available. These will show up under "include non-full text".
